November 28 - Thanksgiving Update
Happy Thanksgiving to all of our family and friends! 💛
I’ll start with an update - Hudson is doing well today. On Monday he started off the week feeling very puny. His ANC was 0 and he spiked a fever, was battling nausea/vomiting, and didn’t want to do much activity at all. Thankfully, he has slowly started to feel better this week, and he finally showed some ANC recovery - 98 yesterday and up to 678 today! He’s been more active the last couple of days, and we’ve been back in the halls, searching for farm animals, riding in the stroller, and delivering ice cream. He’s starting to show some interest in eating food again, too. Today he drank some milk and munched on some fruit loops and a couple bites of ice cream sandwich. This seems small but is great progress from where we were earlier this week. 👍🏻
We continue to wait for count recovery. He has to be at 1500 for two consecutive days before we can be discharged. We’ll also get some testing done in preparation for his next transplant round, including an EKG, echocardiogram, and GFR testing for his kidneys. His sedated ABR (hearing test) will be 12/18. Please pray with us for good results on all of his testing.
Although it’s hard not to all be together for Thanksgiving this year, we’ve come to realize, more than ever, how much we have to be thankful for. We are thankful for the gift of our health and have a greater understanding of just how fragile life is. We are thankful for Hudson’s progress in his treatment, for early detection of his cancer, for good response thus far. We are thankful for the gift of our faith and the Church, to give us hope for the future and help us understand the redemptive value of our suffering and hardships. We are thankful for the gift of our family and friends and community, who have shown up for us in ways that are beyond words. We are thankful for Hudson’s medical team, who have helped us care for our sweet boy during his treatment. We are so grateful!
Jesus, we trust in you! Thank you for the many gifts you give us. 💛
